“Great style should be empowering, fun and outrageously unapologetic.”- Soy

I’m just a cool, easy going New Yorker that’s an unapologetic lace lover, jewelry junkie, shoe addict, vintage enthusiast, highlighter queen, red lipstick snob, color wearing kinda gal.

First, let me just say….I love being a girl! If I couldn’t paint my nails, wear anything that’s glitzy or glamorous, walk in heels, bat my lashes and sway my hips, life would be too simple and almost boring. I’d like to think of myself as a one of a kind individual, I mean have you ever met another Soy?! So I take the same approach when it comes to my sense of style and my wardrobe. I’m very picky and super selective when it comes to shopping. I have a great eye for curating and blending very particular styles, Retro X Modern because I love mixing decades! My style is multi-faceted and I’m undoubtedly a mood dresser. I’m unpredictable and I can wake up one day feeling like a polished edgy rebel, a dainty boho doll, a flirty romantic flamenco, a sexy vintage bombshell or a pinup darling.

My all time favorite style though, is encompassing vintage pieces with modern looks. Mixing the past with the present to give it a touch of timeless elegance with a modern feminine appeal. I approach fashion not only as my creative outlet and my personal self-expression but also as a form of therapy. It just makes you feel good when you love the outfit you’re wearing. Any piece or look that you wear that makes you feel empowered, confident, happy, inspired or sexy is a gem in my eyes.

I was introduced to the world of thrifting and collecting vintage items at a very young age. Some of the jewels in my closet are dresses, blouses, jewelry and skirts that were made by my grandmother- Rita Mae and passed down to me from my mom and some of my aunts (there’s 7 of them). Not only do these pieces make me feel good but they're also very sentimental. So naturally, I love retro pieces because I can bring them back to life by wearing them! I also have a soft spot for things that are handmade, offer unambiguous beauty from specific decades and that have immense details.

Some of my biggest influences and inspirations growing up, apart from my grandmother, mother and aunts are Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren, Frida Khalo, Carmen Miranda, Dorothy Dandridge and old Hollywood styles from the 1940’s, 1950’s and 1960’s. I think the essences of femininity were born in these decades and it sparked a fashion evolution of great classic styles and silhouettes that epitomized sophistication and sass.

At the moment, I’m currently inspired with the expanding plus size market although, I don’t like that we label sizes. I think that beauty should be measured beyond our sizes and more on all the variety of beauty the world has to offer.

Besos!
